Hope we don't have to use this rig to get us to Bakersfield!!!!!!!!! This picture was taken in July 1963 I think on this trip we were heading for Smithfield Tex. That's me in the dirty white T shirt and cowboy hat.
Well, we got to Bakersfield and the California Hot Rod Reunion 2008, and what a blast that was! With thousands of people from all over the world in attendance there. My old partner Harold Owens was at the gate when we arrived and he promptly call Gregg Sharp, the event coordinator, and he led us to one of the best display spots in the "Grove" right next to the Don Garlits Tree. I felt like I was in drag-racing HEAVEN. Jr. Thompson, the event Grand Marshall, was in the site right next to us. He had lots of his past history on display, including two of his cars. On the other side of us was the Gas Rhonda Ford Funny Car which was also being honored at the event. I got to meet and talk with both Jr. Thompson and Gas Rhonda and lots of the crew of both these cars. My old race partner Dean Seevers, who really was the brains behind the original car, came out to be a part of the showing. It was great to have him there and see him enjoying himself so much. We were fortunate enough to win "The Best Nostalgia Gasser" award at the California Hot Rod Reunion for 2008. It was presented by Gasser Wars Magazine. They will do a feature article in the near future.

This is a photo sent by Harry Lindsay from Denver, Colorado. Here is what Harry had to say, " Del, maybe I can add to your website. The racing photo looks more like Julesburg or Cheyenne.??? 1964 or 1965. I could never beat that darn Willy's. But I did get to witness the fantastic AG/S race against Mazmanian at Pomona. This was taken when I was fortunate enough to win "Best Nostalgia Gasser" at the California Hot Rod Reunion in 2008. This was taken just after the Cacklefest when the award was presented by "Gasser Wars" magazine. I was very humbled to receive this on behalf of myself, Dean Seevers and Harold Owens, the original "smiling three".

I got to met Larry Dicksons dad who was there with the Howards Cams "Rattler" dragster. It was a privilege to meet these guys. Probably 2009, and it was very very hot and sticky that weekend!

This was night time racing at Southwest International Raceway in Tucson Az. What fun. We run the 1/8th mile a 5.80 and 120 mph. Notice the bend in the "Wheelie Bar" bracing.
We were putting an awful lot of strain on the bars that night. I never noticed they were bent. They still look straight, but the picture don't lie!!
